Today is my Father's birthday.
He was a great man.
He instilled in me the spirit of charity, kindness and compassion.
He was a fighter, a leader and always there for anyone in need.
He created and forged countless charities and fundraisers throughout his lifetime, raising thousands of dollars for people and places in need.
He believed in spreading joy (a word I use often) and at Christmas, for most of my childhood and beyond, I'd have to share him, as he would be Santa Claus. While at the same time, he would be running the Wishing Tree Appeal.
He was a Union Delegate and was always, selflessly, sticking up for other people.
He was the president of the Philippine Cultural Society... Yet, he was white. This always baffled people at the Multicultural council meetings. But, it was his ideas and strong views that forged a sense of community in a very cultural, political and artistic world that I lived in, in Canberra.
In 2001, He was honored by the Queen and awarded the Centenary Medal, acknowledging and recognising his contribution to Australian society; for his charity
and community work.
He was a great man, a great father and a Papa/Uncle to many an extended family.
He. was. amazing! And I miss him every single day.
I am particularly missing him now.
Happy birthday, Dad.
